Cloud Engineer

Hybrid role – Northern offices, Sheffield
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Cloud Architects, Security Engineers, DevOps, and other stakeholders to design, implement, and manage the new ‘future-state’ cloud security process.
- Design and build activities of the new process.
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of the cloud security process, from design and implementation to ongoing operational management and maintenance.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing best practices, automation opportunities, and innovative solutions to enhance the security and efficiency of the cloud environment.
- Ensure that the cloud security process aligns with industry standards, compliance requirements, and the bank’s security policies.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the ‘Pre-Prod’ specialists, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Conduct regular audits, assessments, and vulnerability scans to identify potential security risks and areas for improvement.
- Participate in incident response and resolution activities, working closely with the incident response team to mitigate any security breaches or incidents.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud security trends, technologies, and developments, and apply this knowledge to enhance the bank’s cloud security posture.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Proven experience in cloud engineering, with a focus on cloud security, preferably in a global financial institution or similarly regulated industry.
- Strong expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, including hands-on experience with cloud security tools and services.
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring technical teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- In-depth knowledge of cloud security best practices, compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST), and industry standards.
- Excellent understanding of network security, identity and access management, encryption, and vulnerability management.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Terraform) to streamline processes and enhance security measures.
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and cloud provider certifications are highly desirable.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
